In January 2018, the Bishop Baraga Association began a $500,000 capital campaign for the renovation of the
Baraga House, where Bishop Frederic Baraga lived the last two years of his life.  On August 18, 2018 the
Baraga Educational Center opened to the public in the renovated Baraga House. It serves as a museum for the
artifacts and tools used by Venerable Bishop Baraga during his ministry, as well as office space for the Bishop
Baraga Association.

The Bishop Baraga Association is committed to creating an education center that will become a pilgrimage
destination, to preserve the artifacts used by Bishop Baraga during his ministry and comply with the Norms
for Beatification. This center will capture the essence of Baraga: the man, the priest and the Bishop as he
ministered throughout the Great Lakes Region. Here you will find an opportunity for prayer, mediation and

Spring of 2019, the Bishop Baraga Association will begin building the upper and lower gardens. In the upper
gardens guests will visit the Votive House to pray for Baraga’s intercession. They will also see a replica of Mala
Vas (Baraga’s birth place) and a Native American dwelling.

Your spiritual journey continues in the lower garden where you may pray the rosary and the Stations of the
Cross which are symbolic of Baraga’s devotion to the Blessed Mother and Christ.
