A diocese is a section of the People of God entrusted to a bishop to be guided by him with the assistance of his clergy so that, loyal to its pastor and formed by him into one community in the Holy Spirit through the Gospel and the Eucharist, it constitutes one particular church in which the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church of Christ is truly present and active.

--Vatican II, Christus Dominus, Oct. 28, 1965
Bishop Alexander Sample leads the Diocese of Marquette. Judy Jason is the secretary to the bishop.

Mission Statement of the Diocese of Marquette

Founded in 1857,  we the Catholic Church of the Diocese of Marquette,  encompassing the whole Upper Peninsula of Michigan,  led by our Bishop,  share in the universal mission of Jesus Christ to bring about the kingdom of God for all people.

As a Eucharistic community, we respond to our call to holiness by loving God, our neighbor and self through worship and service.

We seek to witness our shared Faith as expressed in the Scriptural foundations of peace, justice and compassion.

As the Church of Marquette, we prayerfully commit ourselves to the challenge of the prophet Micah 6:8

"(This is) what The Lord requires of you: only to do the right and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God."
