26TH ANNUAL NATIONAL NIGHT OF PRAYER FOR LIFE
It was on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception (then celebrated on December 9th) that Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Americas and the Unborn, first appeared to St. Juan Diego. The National Night of Prayer for Life bridges these two feasts. Join in prayer with others across America from December 8th at 9 pm (EST-Tuesday) to December 9th at 1 a.m. (EST-Wednesday). RITE OF ELECTION
The Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion is always the first Sunday in Lent, which in 2016 will be Sunday, February 14. Thus, the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion will be held on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at St. Peter Cathedral. Mark your calendars now for the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion, and inform any catechumens or candidates in your parish to mark this date on their calendars and to plan on attending. Admission to election belongs to the bishop, and the presiding celebrant for the Rite of Election is the bishop himself. Therefore, it is expected all catechumens and candidates be present at the Cathedral for the Rite of Election and Call to Continuing Conversion. This is an important opportunity for the catechumens and candidates to have an experience of the diocesan church and to realize they are among a large group of people on the same journey. The Sacrament of Confirmation will take place on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at St. Peter Cathedral at 3:00 pm ET. This Confirmation Mass will be open to the entire Diocese and will be specifically celebrated for the following groups of people who have not yet been confirmed:
If anyone is requesting to be confirmed that does not meet the above criteria, please refer them to your pastor as any special requests must be submitted to the Office of the Bishop from him.
- Youth who will be in the 11th or 12th grade during the 2015-2016 school year;
- Young adults in college who are seeking the Sacrament of Confirmation;
- Those adults in our RCIA programs who have been baptized and raised Catholic, that is, people who have received both the Sacrament of Baptism and Holy Communion. Previously, the bishop granted faculties to confirm at the Easter Vigil those people who have been baptized and raised Catholic. Now, the Bishop, as the ordinary minister of the Sacrament of Confirmation, would like those who have been baptized and raised Catholic to come to the Cathedral so that he can confirm them.

HOSPITALITY LECTURE-SAVE THE DATE
The date has been set for our annual Hospitality Lecture. It will take place on Tuesday, May 31. The presenter this year will be Sr. Sara Butler, M.S.B.T. She will be speaking on the Year of Mercy. More details will be coming at the beginning of the year.

The U.P. Catholic is planning to publish a special section in the December 18 issue listing Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses in our parishes and missions. CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT COLLECTION - NOV 21/21, 2015
The annual collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) will be taken up the weekend of Nov 21/22 in parishes across the Diocese of Marquette. The collection is coordinated by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and offers financial support to end poverty and injustice in the United States. Last year, parishioners in the Diocese of Marquette contributed $16,997.63 to this collection. More than 46 million Americans live in poverty in the United States. By focusing on long-term solutions, CCHD offers an essential complement to the vital work of our Catholic schools, Catholic Charities agencies, pro-life activities, and other direct assistance programs for the marginalized living among us. With the national portion (75% of our collection total), CCHD supports communities across the United States. The local portion (25% of our collection total) stays within our diocese and is distributed by our bishop for projects that meet the CCHD funding guidelines. Please be generous to this collection. 403(b) RETIREMENT PLAN MAXIMUM CONSTRIBUTIONS FOR 2015
Please be aware the maximum contribution per individual is $18,000, unless the employee is age 50 or over. Then an additional "catch-up" contribution of $6,000 is allowed. Since there still are several months left in 2015, it is a good time to evaluate your individual contributions to your 403(b) plan. Are you maximizing the amount you can contribute? LOF GRANT APPLICATIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE JAN. 1, 2016 FOR FAITH FORMATION
The funding focus for 2016-2017 will be the same: the New Evangelization, specifically, faith formation programs that support Bishop John Doerfler’s 3-point invitation to the people of the Diocese of Marquette: 1) Be a friend of Jesus, 2) Make a friend, and 3) Introduce your friend to Jesus. The board encourages applicants to apply for programs, projects and ministries that build on previous faith formation programs, and have potential for expanding and/or having long-range impact. The grant application will be available Jan 1, 2016. Watch for our new easy online application! Submission deadline is April 1, 2016 for programs that will be implemented between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017, with payment available in November 2016. LOF GRANT PROCEDURE REMINDERS
Grant Evaluations are easy! And, an important part of the grant making program. They help the board to assess the effectiveness of the program, guide future funding decisions that the board makes, and provide a measure of accountability. The form is 1-page and need not take more than a few minutes to complete. Please calendar the evaluation due date. Submitting the evaluation on time enables your parish to receive future grants in a timely manner.
Grant Changes & Extensions may be requested. Sometimes things don’t go as planned, or we change our mind. Just call or email us to see if your grant can be changed or extended. As long as your “Plan B” provides a similar program to a similar audience, we are happy to work with you to make it happen! Changes and extensions must be approved prior to expenditure of the grant funds.
