2015 NATIONAL 54 DAY ROSARY NOVENA

On August 15, 2015, the Rosary Evangelization Apostolate is launching the 2015 National 54 Day Rosary Novena for the Family and Marriage including Peace, Sanctity of Human Life & Religious Freedom.  These are key issues of our day, especially with the upcoming World Meeting of Families and the Synod on the Family.  This prayer Novena will conclude October 7, 2015. 

  • 27 days in petition from August 15 through September 10, 2015  

  • 27 days in thanksgiving from September 11 through October 7, 2015 

Bishop John Doerfler welcomes you to join this effort to help bring about spiritual renewal in our nation through the maternal and powerful intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary to whom we entrust this Novena.  Promotional resources are available at the Novena website at:  www.54days.org

SEXUAL ABUSE OF MINORS BY CHURCH OFFICIALS OR VOLUNTEERS
Article 2 of the U.S. Bishops’ Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People calls for periodic public announcements of the procedures for making a complaint of sexual abuse of minors.  This is to help promote healing and reconciliation with victims/survivors of abuse.  To facilitate this, please print the Sexual Abuse of a Minor by Church Officials or Volunteers announcement (found in the Bulletin Announcements section) in your parish bulletin.  Please use this particular announcement and not earlier versions, because the contact information has changed.  Thank you.
 
22nd ANNUAL "MEET THE BISHOP DAY" CELEBRATION
The 22ND annual “Meet the Bishop Day” celebration for people with developmental disabilities will take place on Sunday, July 12TH at 4:00 pm EDT at St. Louis the King Parish, 264 Silver Creek Road, Marquette (Harvey).  Family members and primary caregivers are also invited.  A copy of the registration form is included for your use as Addendum #1.  
 
“Meet the Bishop Day” includes Mass with Bishop John Doerfler followed by a dinner and entertainment in the parish hall.   For the convenience of any hearing impaired and attendees, a signer will be present at the Mass.  Thanks to the generosity of the Knights of Columbus there is no charge for this event!  For more information or to register please complete the registration form or contact:

Peter’s Pence Collection (Collection for the Holy Father)
The Peter’s Pence Collection enables the Holy Father to respond with emergency financial assistance to requests to aid the neediest throughout the world—those who suffer as a result of war, oppression, and natural disasters. It likewise provides the faithful with a tangible opportunity to not only empower the weak, defenseless, and voiceless, but also sustain those who suffer.  A bulletin announcement is available below.

ECCLESIAL MINISTRY INSTITUTE
Once again a systematic formalized formation program for adults will be taking place in our diocese.  This program of theological study is a two-year process covering Sacred Scripture, the four foundational documents of Vatican II, the sacramental and moral life of the Church and Church history. SEE THE SEE - SAVE THE DATE
Plans are underway for the next diocesan-wide Jr. High youth rally, See the See. It will take place on Saturday November 7, 2015.  Mark your calendars now!
 
FALL CATHECHETICAL GATHERING - SAVE THE DATE
This gathering has been scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2016 at Saint Peter Cathedral.  The Center of Ministry Development will be presenting the workshop, “Evangelizing Youth and Their Families.” Watch for the registration form and more information later in the summer!
 
CONFIRMATION CONSULTATION
Fall of 2015 marks the beginning of a two-year process for Confirmation preparation for those youth who will begin the 10th grade in the fall of 2015.  To assist with Confirmation preparation in context of a youth ministry approach meetings will be held.  These will be held in the late summer early/early fall.  Watch your email and the next communicator for more information.

Thank you for attending the Midwest Conference on Catholic Liberal Arts Education. We hope you found it to be informative and interesting. If you were unable to attend, please keep an eye on your emails, Cassie LaTourneau will be sending out a packet from the workshop with all the handouts.
 
EVALUATIONS AND SEPARATION FORMS
Teacher evaluations are due to the Catholic Schools Office, attention Mark Salisbury by June 15. Any staff members leaving at the end of the school year must also have a separation form completed and sent to the Catholic Schools Office by June 30th.

You can sort the parish or mission names alphabetically by clicking on the “Parish” heading. You can also sort by “City,” “Pastor/Administrator” or “Vicariate” by clicking on the corresponding heading.
 
Worth noting: Clicking on “View” in the final column in the row of the parish or mission you are searching may also bring up Reconciliation times. These will show if the parish or mission has included them on their diocesan website home page.

The U.P. Catholic occasionally publishes a list of Eucharistic Adoration times for parishes across the diocese. Please note that The U.P. Catholic will no longer be using Adobe Forms Central for receiving deaths, weddings, and baptisms for publishing to the newspaper. Adobe has discontinued this service. Instead, we are now using JotForm for all submissions.

NEGATION OF COPIER OR EQUIPMENT CONTRACTS
Perhaps you are looking at a copier lease or equipment purchase, a web hosting agreement, a maintenance or service contract.  While the subject of the contracts may differ, there are quite a few things that each of these contracts have in common.  In Addendum #2 you will see helpful tips and ways to avoid hidden costs. The Diocese of Marquette recommends sending all contracts, leases, and purchase orders to Cassie LaTourneau at clatourneau@dioceseofmarquette.org before being signed. All questions may also be directed to her.
 
2015 PAR (PARISH ANNUAL REPORT)
This year’s Parish Annual Report (PAR) Packet information can be found in Addendum #3, the PAR Checklist and a sample copy in Addendum#4, and the Governance Report in Addendum #5.  The Checklist and PAR are due to the diocese by July 31, 2015.  The Governance Report is due September 30, 2015. The forms have also been placed on the diocesan website.  Completed reports should be sent directly to Cassie LaTourneau at the diocese.
 
SUMMER CENSUS FORM
The 2015 Summer Census form is now available and is included as Addendum #6 and the memo with the list of required parishes/ missions are in Addendum #7.  Please count all people present at Mass (during the month of August), regardless of age, and return completed forms to the diocesan offices located at 1004 Harbor Hills Drive, Marquette (Attention: Cassie LaTourneau) by Friday, September 4, 2015.  Please complete a separate one for each parish and mission.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Cassie at clatourneau@dioceseofmarquette.org or at 1-800-562-9745, ext. 137.

The seminar was developed under the leadership of Legacy of Faith to empower diocesan parishes, missions and Catholic schools to easily offer quality educational opportunities utilizing local experts. The seminar is approximately 1½ hours long and is done in partnership with the pastor (or school principal) and a qualified local estate planning attorney. Practical and useful information on estate planning is presented within a stewardship context. LEGACY OF FAITH SERVICE AWARDS (CSA)
Congratulations also go out to the 2015 CSA recipients, Rudolph (Rudy) Schmitt of Sacred Heart Parish, Calumet and James (Jim) Newnum of Holy Redeemer Parish in Menominee! This year marks the 10th anniversary of this award program. Rudy and Jim are recognized for their lifetime dedication and service to the Catholic Church. Their personal witness, although often times performed in quiet, humble and unassuming ways, has deeply impacted and inspired other people in their faith journeys. Watch for Rudy’s and Jim’s stories to be revealed over the summer and into the fall within their parish communities, in The U.P. Catholic Newspaper and social media, and on the diocesan website.

SEXUAL ABUSE OF A MINOR BY CHURCH OFFICIALS OR VOLUNTEERS
If you know of an incident of the sexual abuse of a minor by anyone in Church service, including a member of the clergy, a religious, a lay employee or volunteer, we encourage you to come forward so that the Diocese of Marquette can take action to protect others and help those who have been harmed to find healing.  We are open to and respect your complaint. You are important. We want to make this process as safe as possible. Victim’s Assistance Coordinators are there to help those who have been harmed through the difficult and sometimes painful process of healing and hope. How to begin the process:
