The Catholic Diocese of Marquette has nominated St. Francis Connection Center at Sawyer for Catholic Extension's 2015 Lumen Christi Award. The award honors individuals and groups who share the light of Christ with their diocese and community. The award is accompanied by a $50,000 grant ($25,000 for the honoree and $25,000 for the nominating diocese) to be used for enhancing a specific area of ministry.

St. Francis Connection Center is an outreach ministry of St. Anthony Parish in Gwinn that serves the Sawyer area. The center distributes food to needy families and helps spread the Catholic faith through religious education, prayer and community gathering.
